9 excellent photos from the time Michael Bublé turned on the Grafton Street Christmas lights

Remember that?

EARLIER TODAY, it was revealed that Michael Bublé will play a huge gig in Croke Park next summer.

It’s a big coup for the Canadian crooner, but just for a moment we’d like to remember a different point in his career.

Back in 2011, Michael brought out his Christmas album, a collection of songs that have since come to haunt Irish households each festive season.

So it was only right and just that he mark its release by turning on the Christmas lights on Grafton Street in Dublin – and the city briefly lost its mind.

The street was literally divided in half to prepare for his arrival

As if Grafton Street wasn’t tricky enough to manoeuvre around at the best of times.

The Canadian flag was rolled out for him

A nice touch from BTs, we have to admit.

There was screaming

So much screaming

Our throats hurt just looking at these pictures.

Someone brought along a framed drawing of him

That’s… that’s some effort.

He gave Santa a manly handshake

The two fathers of Christmas, meeting for the first time. It’s a beautiful thing.

There were ballet dancers for some reason

Not to say that they weren’t very good, but we’re not sure how they connect with Canadian singer Michael Bublé.

Oh and Ryan Tubridy turned up

They must have bonded over being fans of swing music, because Bublé was only too happy to make a big appearance on the Late Late Show last year.

Michael, you’ve been very good to us over the years

Turning on the lights, piping our houses with Christmas cheer, making nice chat with Tubs for us and the like. The least we can do for you is let you throw on an auld concert.

Maybe while you’re here you can stand for a few Confirmations and witness a few civil ceremonies? Much appreciated. Thanks Michael.
